In a matchup that showcased two teams desperately fighting for relevancy, the New Delhi Subs edged out the Indy Animals, 47-43. Both teams had their fair share of highs, lows, and oh-no moments, but New Delhi managed to squeak by with the win—and they needed every inch of it.
The Subs were powered by their running backs, Kenneth Walker and Kyren Williams, who both put up 12 points each. Walker bulldozed his way to 93 yards and 2 touchdowns, while Williams mirrored the effort with 76 yards and 2 scores of his own. Even with these standout performances, the Subs' wide receivers seemed more like spectators—Davante Adams managed only 30 yards, and Amari Cooper at least found the end zone for a touchdown. However, DeVonta Smith looked like he was running routes backwards, finishing with a mystifying -2 yards. "I thought we were playing rugby," Smith shrugged after the game.
On the flip side, the Indy Animals looked lively until quarterback Jayden Daniels exited with a rib injury early on. Without their field general, they leaned on the legs of Jahmyr Gibbs, who electrified with 160 yards and 2 touchdowns, racking up 15 points. Tank Bigsby added 13 points of his own, doing his best impression of a runaway train. Unfortunately, their passing game was non-existent after Daniels went down, leaving Garrett Wilson to contribute just 2 points on a lone two-point conversion. “When your QB goes out and you’re left passing to ghosts, it’s tough to win games,” Wilson lamented.
Adding to the Subs' bittersweet victory, WR Brandon Aiyuk was confirmed out for the season after tearing his ACL. “It’s a huge blow for us," said Subs' owner Pete Shaunki. "But, you know, it’s the Subs—we always find a way to limp across the finish line... literally.”
Indy owner Kevin 'Q' Ryburn, on the other hand, was seen clutching his phone, already making trade offers to any owner who would listen. “If we can’t keep our players on the field, maybe we’ll just swap ‘em all out,” Ryburn grumbled as he scrolled through waiver options.
While the Subs might celebrate their hard-fought victory, the reality is sinking in that their season isn’t getting any easier without Aiyuk. As for Indy, the hope is Jayden Daniels' injury isn't severe, or their playoff dreams might be riding off into the sunset—without them.
