The Battle of Condiments: Honey Mustard Rivalry Served Extra Tangy
In the most flavorful game of the week, the Honey Mustard Rivalry didn’t disappoint as the New Delhi Subs spiced up their season with a rare, sweet victory over Hartford, 55-38. The Whalers, meanwhile, were left to drown their sorrows in plain ketchup, because mustard is strictly for winners.
In the third quarter, Sutton and Jonnu Smith both scored, turning a tight contest into a comfortable Subs lead. "We could’ve shared the mustard,” Hartford’s Jayden Reed said afterward. “But New Delhi wanted the whole bottle.”
New Delhi’s backup quarterback, Cooper Rush, played like he was auditioning for a leading role, throwing for 248 yards and two touchdowns. After the game, Rush said, “I just pretended I was Patrick Mahomes, but, you know, slower.”
Courtland Sutton dominated with 97 yards and two touchdowns. He was seen yelling "Who's got the mustard now?" after his second score. When asked if this performance was personal, Sutton replied, “Every game is personal when you’re playing for Pete Shaunki's Subs.”
Hartford’s Tony Pollard ran for 129 yards and a touchdown, but it felt like he was carrying the entire Whalers' ship on his back. “I did my part,” Pollard said. “Unfortunately, I can’t also play defense.”
Hartford’s Spencer Shrader nailed three field goals and three extra points, while New Delhi’s Justin Tucker countered with three extra points and one field goal. Tucker later joked, “It’s not the size of the kick; it’s the frequency.”
“We beat Hartford, and we didn’t even have to throw in a side of fries this time.” said Pete Shaunki, Subs Owner.
While a bitter Chad Allem took this route, “Pete can keep his Honey Mustard trophy. I’m upgrading to barbecue sauce next year.”
The New Delhi Subs may be down and out of playoff contention, but they’ve officially earned bragging rights in the Honey Mustard Rivalry. For Hartford, the playoff dreams are slipping away like a bottle of mustard on a greased countertop. Better luck next year, Whalers!
